In order to implement the feedback from the teaching and management inspection of the Provincial Department of Education and improve the sense of mission and identity of all faculty and staff on vocational education, on the afternoon of February 22, Professor Shan Qiang, doctoral supervisor of Nanjing University and chairman of the Academic Committee of Suzhou Industrial Vocational and Technical College, made a special report on "Development and Reform of Modern Vocational Education" at the school's 2024 spring semester faculty training conference. At the meeting, Professor Shan Qiang gave an in-depth explanation from three aspects: the four major schools of international vocational education, the development of modern vocational education in China, and the path of innovation in higher vocational education, and introduced the four major schools of international vocational education through four typical cases: the dual system in Germany, the community college in United States, the TAFE system in Australia, and the "teaching factory" in Singapore. This paper systematically explains the various stages of the development of modern vocational education in China, analyzes the three core issues of current vocational education from the macro, meso, and micro levels, summarizes the five major trends of vocational education development, and makes an in-depth analysis of the reform path of China's higher vocational education from the aspects of new concepts, new systems, new models, new technologies, and new goals. He said that the exploration of vocational education should not be enclosed as a prison, but should stand in an international perspective, explore and discuss from multiple levels, and the development of vocational education should go to enterprises and serve the development of the industry.
